Cookies and similar technologies are small data files or identifiers stored on your device that help us:
- Keep you signed in securely
- Remember your preferences and settings
- Measure app usage and performance
- Deliver contextual advertisements (free tier only)
- Improve service reliability and AI tool accuracy
These technologies do not contain malicious code, do not execute programs and cannot access other data on your device beyond what is explicitly permitted by your operating system.

4Third-Party Technologies
Anecdex integrates trusted third-party SDKs and services that may set their own tracking identifiers:
- Analytics: Google Firebase Analytics (crash reporting, performance monitoring).
- Payments: Apple App Store, Google Play, Ozow, PayFast, Yoco, Peach Payments.
- Cloud & Security: Encrypted cloud storage providers, DRM partners.
- AI Services: AI narration, writing assistance and study assistant providers (data processed per Section 10 of our Privacy Policy).
All third parties operate under strict Data Processing Agreements, are prohibited from using Anecdex data for their own marketing purposes and must comply with POPIA and applicable African data protection laws.
5Your Choices & Controls
You maintain full control over tracking technologies on Anecdex:
- Device Settings: Manage app permissions, reset advertising identifiers or clear local storage via iOS/Android settings.
- In-App Settings: Toggle non-essential analytics or contextual ad delivery (where available).
- Account Deletion: Removes all associated tracking data within 60 days per our Data Retention Schedule.
We do not use "Do Not Track" signals as our tracking is purpose-limited and non-behavioural, but we honour all platform-level opt-outs where technically feasible.
6Student & Child Privacy Commitment
- Users aged 14–17 (Students) are never subjected to advertising tracking or behavioural profiling.
- Student learning data, quiz results and AI interactions are excluded from ad networks and analytics profiling.
- Parental/guardian consent mechanisms apply to all tracking for users under 18.
- We comply fully with POPIA Section 34, Kenya DPA Section 33, Nigeria NDPA Section 31 and Ghana DPA Section 37 regarding minors.
7Data Retention & Security
- Tracking data is stored securely using encryption at rest and in transit.
- Session and authentication tokens expire automatically or upon logout.
- Analytics data is aggregated and de-identified after 12 months.
- All tracking complies with the retention periods outlined in our Privacy Policy.
- We conduct regular security audits of SDKs and tracking implementations.
8Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect technological, legal or operational changes.
Material changes will be notified 30 days in advance via in-app notice or email. Minor updates take effect immediately upon posting.
Continued use of Anecdex after changes constitutes acceptance. You may review the latest version anytime in App Settings under "Legal".
