Subscription Terms

Welcome to Anecdex.

These Subscription Terms govern the purchase, renewal, cancellation, and use of all paid subscription services offered by Anecdex Technologies (Pty) Ltd ("Anecdex", "we", "our", or "us").

By subscribing to an Anecdex subscription plan, you agree to these Subscription Terms together with our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines, and all other applicable platform policies.

Anecdex currently offers the following subscription plans:

Premium — enhanced access to books and platform features, including:

• Ad-free reading experience
• Unlimited access to Premium books
• Faster access to newly released content
• Higher-quality reading experience
• Offline reading (where available)
• Exclusive reader features
• Early feature access where applicable

Premium Plus — includes everything in Premium together with additional benefits such as:

• Access to Anecdex Originals
• Exclusive books available only on Anecdex
• Premium Plus-only collections
• Exclusive author content
• Future audiobook access
• Future live author events
• Future creator exclusives

Additional benefits may be introduced over time without reducing existing subscriber rights.

Subscription pricing is displayed before checkout. Current pricing includes:

Annual subscriptions may receive promotional discounts where available. Prices are subject to change with reasonable notice.

Where offered, eligible new subscribers may receive a one-time, complimentary 7-day free trial before their paid subscription begins. The free trial is available to first-time subscribers only and is subject to Anecdex's Subscription Terms.

The free trial is available only once per eligible user unless otherwise stated.

At the end of the trial period, the subscription automatically converts into a paid subscription unless cancelled before renewal.

Subscriptions are billed in advance. Payment methods may include:

• Credit Cards
• Debit Cards
• Apple Pay
• Google Pay
• PayFast
• Other supported payment methods

Users authorise Anecdex to charge the selected payment method on each renewal date.

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of every billing cycle unless cancelled before the renewal date.

Renewal charges will use the payment method stored on the user's account.

If payment cannot be collected:

• Anecdex may retry payment.
• Premium access may be suspended.
• Subscription benefits may be revoked until payment is successful.
• Continued failed payments may result in cancellation.

Subscribers may cancel at any time. Cancellation prevents future billing.

Users retain Premium access until the end of the paid billing period.

No additional charges will occur after cancellation unless the subscription is reactivated.

Subscription payments are generally non-refundable. Refunds may only be granted where:

• Required by South African consumer protection legislation.
• Duplicate charges occurred.
• Technical errors prevented access.
• Billing errors occurred.

Refund requests are reviewed individually.

Subscriptions are licensed for individual use. Users may not:

• Share login credentials
• Sell subscriptions
• Transfer subscriptions
• Circumvent subscription limits

Anecdex may suspend accounts involved in unauthorised sharing.

The following activities are prohibited:

• Fraudulent subscriptions
• Stolen payment methods
• Chargeback abuse
• Account farming
• Automated account creation
• Exploiting free trials

Accounts found abusing subscriptions may be permanently suspended.

Certain features may:

• Roll out gradually
• Be unavailable in certain countries
• Depend on device compatibility
• Require internet connectivity

Some announced features may be released in future updates.

Anecdex may:

• Add new features
• Improve existing features
• Introduce new subscription tiers
• Remove discontinued features where necessary

Material pricing changes will be communicated before taking effect.

Subscribers must:

• Maintain an active Anecdex account.
• Provide accurate billing information.
• Keep payment details up to date.

Subscribers are responsible for securing their account credentials.

Anecdex reserves the right to suspend or terminate subscriptions where users:

• Violate the Terms of Service
• Commit fraud
• Engage in illegal activity
• Abuse payment systems
• Circumvent platform restrictions

Termination does not automatically entitle the subscriber to a refund.

Premium books are licensed — not sold.

Subscribers receive limited, non-transferable access during an active subscription.

Users may not:

• Download books outside approved offline features.
• Copy or reproduce content.
• Redistribute books.
• Remove copyright notices.
• Use Premium content commercially without permission.

All books, artwork, trademarks, logos, software, designs, and platform content remain the intellectual property of their respective owners.

Subscription does not transfer ownership of any content.

A subscription may, from time to time, include access to additional services introduced by Anecdex, including but not limited to:

• Educational resources
• Audiobooks
• AI-powered learning and writing tools
• Live author sessions
• Reading challenges
• Community events

The availability of such services may vary depending on subscription tier, region, and platform compatibility.

These Subscription Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts unless otherwise required by applicable law.
