IP Rights Process

Anecdex Technologies (Pty) Ltd ("Anecdex", "we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting the intellectual property rights of authors, publishers, creators, and copyright owners.

This Intellectual Property Rights Process outlines the procedures Anecdex follows to ensure that only lawfully owned or licensed content is published on the platform and explains how copyright disputes are handled.

Authors retain full ownership of the intellectual property in the books and original works they publish on Anecdex.

Publishing content on Anecdex does not transfer ownership of copyright to Anecdex.

Authors grant Anecdex a non-exclusive licence to host, display, distribute, market, and make their content available to users in accordance with the author's publishing preferences and applicable subscription model.

Before publishing any content, every author must confirm that:

• They are the original creator and copyright owner of the work; or
• They have obtained all necessary permissions, licences, or legal rights to publish the content.

By submitting content, the author warrants that:

• The work does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.
• All quoted, adapted, translated, or licensed material has been used with appropriate permission.
• They accept full legal responsibility for the content they publish.

False declarations may result in immediate suspension or termination of the author's account.

Anecdex respects and protects various forms of intellectual property, including but not limited to:

• Books and manuscripts
• Short stories
• Poetry
• Educational materials
• Audiobooks
• Illustrations and artwork
• Book cover designs
• Logos and trademarks
• Photographs
• Videos
• Audio recordings
• Software and source code
• AI-generated content where legally protected
• Translations
• Course materials
• Research publications

Anecdex may request additional information from authors before or after publication where necessary, including:

• Government-issued identification
• Proof of authorship
• Publishing agreements
• Copyright registration (where applicable)
• Licensing agreements
• Permission letters from copyright owners

Failure to provide requested documentation may delay publication or result in the removal of content.

Anecdex employs both automated systems and manual review processes to help identify potentially infringing content. Monitoring activities may include:

• User reports
• Community moderation
• Internal reviews
• Duplicate content detection
• Similarity checks
• Publisher notifications
• Copyright owner complaints

Where necessary, content may be temporarily restricted while an investigation is conducted.

Copyright owners, publishers, agents, or authorised representatives who believe their intellectual property has been infringed may submit a formal notice to info@anecdex.com.

A report should include:

• Full name of the complainant
• Contact information
• Proof of ownership or authority to act on behalf of the copyright owner
• Identification of the copyrighted work
• The title or link to the allegedly infringing content on Anecdex
• A description of the alleged infringement
• A declaration that the information provided is accurate and submitted in good faith

Incomplete reports may require additional information before action can be taken.

Upon receiving a valid complaint, Anecdex will:

Step 1: Acknowledge Receipt. The complainant receives confirmation that the report has been received.

Step 2: Preliminary Assessment. Our moderation team reviews the complaint and supporting evidence.

Step 3: Temporary Action. Where appropriate, Anecdex may:

• Temporarily disable access to the content.
• Restrict distribution.
• Suspend monetisation.
• Place the publication under review.

These measures are precautionary and do not constitute a finding of infringement.

Step 4: Author Response. The author may be contacted and invited to provide proof of ownership, licensing documentation, a written explanation, or supporting evidence.

Step 5: Final Decision. Anecdex may:

• Reinstate the content.
• Remove the content.
• Suspend publishing privileges.
• Permanently terminate the account.
• Escalate the matter to legal authorities where required.

Authors who repeatedly violate intellectual property rights may face:

• Permanent account suspension.
• Removal from the Anecdex Author Programme.
• Loss of monetisation eligibility.
• Forfeiture of unpaid royalties relating to infringing content where permitted by law.

Anecdex reserves the right to refuse future account registrations from repeat infringers.

Where an author believes content was removed in error, they may submit a counter-notification providing evidence of their rights or authorisation. Counter-notifications must include:

• The author's contact information.
• The title of the affected work.
• A detailed explanation.
• Supporting documentation.

Anecdex will review the submission before making a final determination.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that any use of third-party material falls within applicable legal exceptions, such as fair dealing or fair use, where recognised by law.

Anecdex does not provide legal advice regarding copyright exceptions.

Authors using artificial intelligence tools remain responsible for ensuring that AI-assisted content does not infringe the intellectual property rights of others.

Where concerns arise regarding AI-generated material, Anecdex may request additional information regarding the creation of the work.

Where content is published under agreements with publishers, educational institutions, or corporate partners, Anecdex may request proof of publishing rights before publication.

Where legally required, Anecdex may cooperate with:

• Courts of law
• Law enforcement agencies
• Copyright authorities
• Regulatory bodies
• Intellectual property organisations

Such cooperation will be conducted in accordance with applicable South African law and our Privacy Policy.

Knowingly submitting false or malicious copyright complaints is prohibited.

Anecdex reserves the right to reject fraudulent notices and may take appropriate action against users who abuse the reporting process.

This Intellectual Property Rights Process may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in legislation, technology, and platform operations. Material updates will be published on the Anecdex website and, where appropriate, communicated to users.
