Why past papers are the single best study tool
Past papers tell you exactly how the examiner thinks. They reveal which topics get tested most often, how questions are phrased, and where students typically lose easy marks.
Working through five years of past papers under timed conditions is the most effective preparation strategy a matric or university student can use.
Subjects covered
Anecdex hosts NSC past papers for Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Geography, History, English, Afrikaans and more.
University past papers from major South African institutions are being added in partnership with student groups, focused on first-year and second-year courses.
How to practise with past papers properly
Set a timer for the full exam duration, work in a quiet room, and use only what you'd have access to in the actual exam (calculator, formula sheet where applicable). Mark yourself honestly using the memo.
Repeat. Many students improve their marks by 10–20% just by doing this consistently in the months before exams.
Memos and explanations
Every paper on Anecdex is paired with the official memo where available. Where memos are limited, the AI study assistant can walk through a worked solution.
Don't only check whether your answer is right — check why the right answer is right.
Searching and organising past papers
Filter past papers by subject, year, paper number and topic. Save the ones you've completed in your library so you don't redo work or skip what you haven't tried yet.
The cleaner your past-paper system, the faster your improvement curve.
