Physical Science Notes for South African Learners

Physical Sciences combines physics and chemistry, and CAPS expects you to be strong in both.

Anecdex's Physical Science notes cover the full curriculum with clear explanations, worked examples and past-paper practice.

Physics topics covered

Mechanics (motion, forces, momentum, work and energy), waves and sound, electromagnetism, electric circuits, and modern physics. Every topic is broken into manageable sub-sections with diagrams and worked examples.

Special focus is given to topics that consistently appear in NSC papers, like vertical projectile motion and electromagnetic induction.

Chemistry topics covered

Matter and materials, chemical change, chemical bonding, organic chemistry, acids and bases, electrochemistry, and the rates of reactions. Reaction mechanisms and balancing equations are covered in detail.

Organic chemistry naming conventions are explained step by step so you stop losing easy marks on simple identification questions.

Practical investigations

Practical work is examined in Paper 1 and Paper 2 contexts. Anecdex's notes summarise the standard practicals (titrations, electrolysis, projectile motion, etc.) so you can answer practical-based questions confidently even if you missed a session at school.

Diagrams and apparatus lists are included for every major practical.

Past paper practice

Physical Sciences rewards consistent past-paper practice more than almost any other subject. The question types repeat year after year — once you've seen ten variations of a projectile motion problem, the eleventh is straightforward.

Anecdex's past Physical Sciences papers are filterable by topic so you can practise exactly what you've just revised.

Getting unstuck

If a concept isn't clicking — whether it's free body diagrams, organic naming or balancing redox equations — the AI assistant can re-explain it in different ways until something lands.

Many students find that the second or third explanation is the one that finally makes the topic intuitive.
